Our Goal
The 4th International Symposium on Music and Health Promotion (ISMHP) will be held in Taiwan in 2025, focusing on interdisciplinary collaboration in “Music and Health Promotion.” This symposium will feature renowned scholars from Europe, the Americas, and Asia, including experts in music physiology, music psychology, music therapy, performing arts medicine, music technology, and health. They will jointly explore the potential of music in health promotion and medical applications. Through a deep integration of theory and practice, the symposium will offer professionals interested in music medicine, music therapy, music technology, and health promotion a valuable opportunity for academic exchange.
Since its inception in 2010, this symposium series has attracted numerous top international experts, including Dr. Eckart Altenmüller from the Musician’s Medicine Research Center in Hannover, Germany; Dr. John Chong from McMaster University in Canada; and Dr. Bronwen Ackermann from the University of Sydney in Australia. Originally scheduled for 2022, the 4th symposium was postponed to 2025 due to the pandemic. This year’s symposium will feature international scholars such as Dr. Kris Chesky, a distinguished professor from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Kat Agres from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music at the National University of Singapore, and Dr. Matt McCrary from Hannover Medical School in Germany. They are renowned experts in areas such as performing arts health, music perception and cognition, and music physiology.
The symposium will feature keynote speeches and a call for poster presentations to encourage innovative developments in cross-disciplinary research on music and health. Additionally, to foster an atmosphere of interdisciplinary collaboration, a symposium gala concert by the Asian Doctors Orchestra and the Physician's Chamber Orchestra of Taiwan will be held on the evening of the symposium's final day, showcasing the synergistic effects of music and health care.
The 2025 ISMHP will serve not only as a platform for the exchange of academic knowledge but also as a crucial space for professionals from different fields to explore the role of music in health promotion.
